Jon Payne - North Walsham West & Erpingham

Jon Payne is a musician/digital producer, and consultant to charity organisations specialising in education, heritage, arts, and culture, helping to develop their marketing and fundraising programmes.
I have a long association with North Walsham through its arts and culture: I was Assistant Organist at St Nicholas' Church in the early 2000s, and taught singing at the former North Walsham High School. I was Assistant Director and Project Manager for Birmingham Youth Action Zone, delivering music education projects to disadvantaged and at risk young people. I later worked as Event Logistics Manager for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Since then I have worked for numerous charities, helping to raise awareness of their work and develop their fundraising.
I was Organ Scholar at Norwich Cathedral, a Choral & Vocal tutor for Norfolk Education Music Service and later Assistant Director of Music at Bradford Cathedral. I moved back to North Norfolk a few years ago, and I am keen to help with the efforts to promote and encourage investment in North Walsham, revitalising the town centre, and improving education and employment opportunities for young people in particular.
In my spare time, I'm a keen sailor and jetskiier, a member of my local lifeboat crew, and play accordion with a leading local shanty group. During lockdown I've been keeping people's spirits up with a series of 'virtual' concerts and organ recitals, as well as helping a number of other musicians move their work online.
Priorities for North Walsham West & Erpingham (including Aldborough, Banningham, Calthorpe, Colby, Erpingham, Felmingham, Suffield, North Walsham, and Swanton Abbott)
- I will support the regeneration of North Walsham, including lobbying North Norfolk District Council to complete long-awaited deal for a new Wetherspoon's
- I will work hard to help create more education and employment opportunities for young people and families
- I will support businesses and the town's arts and culture offer - to improve our local economy and encourage more footfall through the town
- I will promote our great outdoor spaces - parks, walks, canal, and local cycle routes - recognising that activity and exercise play a big part in helping to address the challenges to physical and mental health resulting from the Covid-19 lockdowns and the effects of 'long Covid'.
If you'd like to discuss any issues or local concerns or find out more about me, please do get in touch - I'd love to hear from you. If you need help registering for a postal vote, I can help you with that too.
