Nigel Dixon is the current County Councillor for Hoveton & Stalham (including Ashmanhaugh, Hoveton, Scottow, Sloley, Smallburgh, Stalham, Sutton, and Tunstead).
About Nigel
I am Stalham born and bred, and I've lived in Hoveton for 37 years. I had a first career of 23 years in aeronautical engineering in the RAF, retiring at the rank of Squadron Leader. My second career of 10 years was as Head of Engineering at Norfolk Fire Service, and I have run my own business for the past 33 years. I have held several Board level positions on public bodies, including Chairman of an NHS Trust, over a twenty-year period.
My voluntary service has included 26 years as a magistrate, various trusteeships, and currently I am Chairman of a Community Care Car Scheme and a Good Neighbour Scheme. I have been a District Councillor for 14 years, performing Cabinet and committee chairmanship roles, and I have been a County Councillor for 12 years, holding a Cabinet Member role and appointed to the Board of the Broads Authority.
I am an active aviator, vintage car collector, woodland creator and gardener, and I run and walk regularly to keep fit.
Priorities for Hoveton & Stalham
- To protect the environment. In particular: surface- and foul-water flooding prevention; sympathetic and sustainable low-carbon development; landscape and wildlife ecosystem conservation.
- To value people. Especially: social care of the elderly and vulnerable; education, vocational training and career opportunities for young people; sustainable communities with a good quality of life.
- To support the economy. Including: sustainable job creation and inward investment; uprated infrastructure - electricity and water shortages - conflict in water demands between food production/wetland conservation/domestic supply; road congestion relief; and broadband/mobile phone capacity and coverage.
